Deep Roots
Looking for a rewarding way to get more involved in your community? Consider becoming a GEO CENTRE volunteer.
Don’t worry – you don’t have to be an astronaut or a geologist to volunteer at the GEO CENTRE (although it’s fine if you are!) The main thing that our volunteers have in common is a passion for planet earth, and a desire to share our province with people from all over the world.
The Johnson GEO CENTRE requires a minimum age of 16 years to be a volunteer. All potential volunteers undergo a screening process that includes submitting an application form with references, participating in an interview and applying to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for a Certificate of Conduct (free for volunteers).
Check out the list of GEO CENTRE volunteer opportunities.
Complete and return the GEO CENTRE Volunteer Application Form with your resume to our admissions desk, or mail to:

Being a GEO volunteer enables you to learn about a new topic or share your knowledge with others. It also gives you the opportunity to improve your speaking and presentation skills. You will meet an interesting assortment of other people who are volunteers like yourself. As a GEO volunteer, you will be making a genuine contribution to the GEO CENTRE’s programs – the CENTRE could not provide this service without you!
Volunteers are treated in a professional manner and are considered GEO CENTRE colleagues. You will have access to the GEO reference library. Volunteers get discounts at the GEO CENTRE’s shop, GEO GIFTS.
Throughout the year there are in-services on topics of general interest, such as learning about fossils, expeditions to other museums and interpretation centres, etc. Some social events may be held in combination with a potluck lunch. There are also other special events recognizing the contributions of our volunteers.
