Get outta the classroom, and into the GEO CENTRE!
GEO CLASSES are fun, hands-on experiences for students in grades two through six.
These classes are based directly on the Newfoundland and Labrador curriculum, and are offered on weekday mornings from 9:30 untill 11:45am.
The cost is $5.50 per student, with one chaperone admitted free with every ten paying students. Additional chaperoones may participate at a cost of $5.75 each.
The maximum group size is sixty (60) students. Groups larger than sixty students must book two separate visits.
Teachers will be required to subdivide their group into smaller units for the GEO CLASS lessons.
GEO CENTRE guidelines and a student workbook are faxed & emailed to the teacher two weeks before their visit, so they will have time to review the guidelines with their class and produce sufficient copies of the workbook for all students.
Teachers are welcome to explore the exhibits as part of their visit after the class has concluded, but should allow extra time for this activity. Please take this into consideration when arranging transportation for your visit.

Grade 2 WATERNAUTS
As WaterNauts, our students will take a journey through the water cycle, becoming water droplets as they travel from the mighty oceans to the clouds in the sky. As they make their way through water cycle, they will learn about evaporation, condensation and percipitation. Students will then head to the “GEO Lab” to investigate water pollution. They will discover ways to clean water, and learn that water pollution is not always easy to see. Students will test several clear samples of water for taste, and report their observations. Join us as we discover that there is more to water than meets the eye!
Curriculum Connection: Grade 2 Air & Water Unit
Grade 3 SOIL SCIENTISTS
As Soil Scientists, our students will venture into the wilds of our outdoor classroom to investigate soil in its natural environment. They will observe weather conditions and discover the fascinating world of soil components, layers, textures, smells, inhabitants and erosion! Students will then head to the “GEO Lab” to perform experiments on soil. What effect does moving water have on soil? How does the thickness of the humus layer affect plants? Our Soil Scientists will work in teams to answer these questions and share their discoveries.
Curriculum Connection: Grade 3 Down Under Unit
GEO Expeditions
If a GEO CLASS is not what you are looking for, why not book your class for a 20 minute program combined with time to visit the exhibits?
Our GEO Expeditions for Kindergarten to Grade 3 combine a short science presentation with access to all of our exhibit galleries.
