At the center of Memorial University’s mission is public engagement. Woven into the fabric of Memorial’s activities is mutual collaboration – between people and groups, internal and external – drawing on knowledge and resources and resulting in mutual benefit and respect.
Much like Memorial, The Johnson Geo Centre has been connecting with community partners for well over a decade and it is for this reason that the Geo Centre has become one of the university’s newest support units under the Office Public Engagement (OPE).
Recently gifted to the university, and now nestled in the OPE as part of MUN’s Signal Hill Campus, GEO continues to be committed to outreach and partnering with like-minded community groups.
Working with groups like The Ocean Learning Partnership on pre-service teacher education programs with Ocean-STEM Teacher Institute and Science Literacy Week, a Canada-wide week-long celebration of science-based activities that highlight our outstanding scientists and science communicators from coast-to-coast, allows the centre to fulfill its mandate, connecting groups and creating meaningful content for the public.
We look forward to sharing more about these collaborations and others in the coming months! So stay tuned!
